Thanks for the post. There are many American families, just like yours, who have adapted into the American culture because they wanted something different. For these "ethnic association" groups as you have very well identified, they don't want the American culture - they want their ethnicity and the blessings that those who have assimilated into American society enjoy. In other words, they want what we have without being part of us. That's where the rub is.

I have some very good friends who are Latino and don't mind their culture "contributions" into American society, even. As a Caucasian male, I have no problem with Hispanic culture, even in America. What bothers me though is that I get the title of racist (hilarious in its own right because we are all of the human race) when I look at someone from the South who decides to fly the Confederate Battle Flag (which is just as American as baseball or apple pie) as a testament that the people are supposed to have the power, not the Federal government. And interestingly, when I get into arguments with my father over racism, I am usually defending black people because his prejudice is obsolete (not to mention I love soul food).

It's been my experience that those who cry "racist" usually are the so-called racists themselves.

America has room for all who want to come here...and be Americans. Perhaps that's hard to see because all of the Founding Fathers were land-owning white guys. But that doesn't mean a thing. If you believe in what they did, for yourself and for those in America, then you're just as fit to be an American as those that signed the Declaration of Independence. But that also means that you leave behind your need to identify with something other than America. In other words, love the country in which you live or live in the country that you love.

Que Dios bendiga a los Estados Unidos.

I agree entirely. My parents were born in Mexico, and at some point in their lives immigrated here legally. My father and mother are American Citizens. They have paid taxes, continue to pay taxes, and have largely come to accept the culture of Midwest America as their own, as well as the country of the United States of America as their own. My brother, my sister and I, were born in America and raised in a household where tradition, culture and heritage did not matter. Culture came from out own interests, our cities, from our friends, associates, and experiences. Our heritage was human, and the closest we got to tradition was the interest in soccer that my father passed down onto me. I personally do not Identify myself as a Latino or Hispanic person. However I find the Latino student association groups that I've encountered throughout high school and college to be the largest source of oppression that I have encountered in my life. By forming a group based on a specific set of morals or political, religious viewpoint then calling it a "ethnic association" it effectively undermines the attempt to remove stereotypes. My parents and I rarely vote according to "The Latino Vote", we do not share the "Hispanic view" on Illegal immigration etc.True, my family is of Hispanic decent, however you probably couldn't tell if you saw us, heard our opinions, saw our home, or knew the life choices that we've made. We're essentially just any other American family.

The overall question of abortion is about the value of life and the impact of consequences. With all of this hullaballoo regarding requiring businesses to furnish birth control as a medical benefit, it's amazing how many different shades of the same problem surface.

Sex without consequences is what birth control is about. A child is a natural outcome of the copulative process and we all understand that liberals don't truly believe in consequences. And abortion is nothing more than a further example of sex without the pregnancy consequence.

Don't be too upset with yourself because of where you were, but remember that we're all pilgrims on this journey and sometimes, we have to learn the lessons as we go.

Stay rabid, my friend.

I used to partially disagree with you on this Rick, in part, because my first wife and I (we were really young) used PP for guidance through my wifes pregnancy, we had little to no money and they provided all the prenatal services and made sure we had the right doctors and care, they even set everything up with KU med center to deliver my daughter. Blinded by the liberal "free care", I never saw beyond the walls, I never saw the ugly truth of what happens beyond the area I was in. Makes me sick to think how blind I was. Now with my son being two years old and being a part of his every day life, I couldn't think of life with out him, regardless of the reason, once life is created it should not be vacuumed out of existence. Creating a human is a gift from god and should be handles with care and love. Life shouldn't be punished and destroyed for any reason! I now fully agree with your stance!

*sigh* Leave it to raving liberals to rant on about something that has no point on the topic at hand. Instead of talking about SOPA, you feel obligated to spew liberal slanted nonsense about other actions of Congress as if it means anything here. If you want to talk about SOPA, perhaps you should read it, come up with an opinion of your own, rather than dithering, worn out lib-crat talking points, and discuss it. Talk about stuffing the scarecrow.

By the way, I don't link to liberal nonsense, so no posts to your blog.

Well, I don't agree with throwing Florida under the bus because of the Broward County incident or because of DWS. But the Dem Blonde really shows us all blatantly how distorted the liberal mind can be. She's pretty much like the Baghdad Bob of the Democrat Party. I don't even think her own party takes her seriously.

Here's just a short list of some of the bills that Republicans have blocked:
- Tax on Companies that ship jobs overseas-
- Political Ad disclosure bill-
-Subpoena Power for the Committee investigating the BP Oil Spill
-The Small Business Jobs Act
-The DREAM Act
-Repeal of “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell”-
-From Crooks and Liars - When John McCain led the filibuster of the Defense Appropriations Act, he blocked far more than the DREAM Act and repeal of DADT. Here are just a few of the other blocked provisions, courtesy of the CR:
No permanent military bases in Afghanistan.
Report identifying hybrid or electric propulsion systems and other fuel-saving technologies for incorporation into tactical motor vehicles.
Protection of child custody arrangements for parents who are members of the Armed Forces deployed in support of a contingency operation.
Improvements to Department of Defense domestic violence programs.
Department of Defense recognition of spouses of members of the Armed Forces.
Department of Defense recognition of children of members of the Armed Forces.
Enhancements to the Troops-to-Teachers Program.
Fiscal year 2011 increase in military basic pay.
Improving aural protection for members of the Armed Forces.
Comprehensive policy on neurocognitive assessment by the military health care system.
Authority to make excess nonlethal supplies available for domestic emergency assistance.
-Senator Franken’s Anti-Rape Amendment to the Defense Appropriations Bill - Makes it so that women raped overseas while working for foreign contractors have the right to have their case heard in an American court instead of having their case mediated by the company they work for. Only Republican men voted against this, but it passed.
-Benefits for Homeless Veterans- Would have expanded benefits to homeless veterans and homeless veterans with children. Republicans blocked this.
-Affordable Health Care For America Act- Prevents insurance companies from discriminating against you on the basis of "pre-existing conditions". Requires that insurance companies spend 85 cents of every dollar that you pay on your actual health care. Limits health insurance companies profit margins. Republicans blocked this for months before it finally passed and have vowed to repeal it if they are elected.
-Health Care for the 9/11 First Responders who got sick from being at Ground Zero- Would provide billions of dollars in health care to help the 9/11 First Responders who were at Ground Zero on 9/11 and are now sick because of it. Republicans blocked this.

The Jobs Bill- Offsets the payroll tax for 1 year for companies that hire new employees, or people receiving unemployment insurance. Also gives other tax incentives to companies hiring new employees. Republicans attempted to block this.
-Wall Street Reform- Puts stricter regulations on the banks, preventing them from becoming "too big to fail". Curbs reckless spending practices that caused the banking crisis. Republicans attempted to block this.

American Recovery and Reinvestment Act- Pumped billions of dollars into state and local Governments to prevent us from sinking into a second Great Depression. Republicans opposed this but now want to take credit for the parts of it that we know are successful.

Oil Spill Liability- Raises the liability on what companies can be made to pay to clean up after an oil spill. Republicans blocked this.

Immigration Reform- Republican suggested comprehensive immigration reform until Obama supported it. Now they're rabidly opposed to it and even voted against their own legislation. Republicans blocked this.
-Unemployment extension bill HR-4213- Would provide additional aid to the millions of Americans still on unemployment who are just trying to support themselves and their families.
